Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes announces start of production in Henrico County

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (March 6, 2013) – The Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. and Henrico County are pleased to announce that Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes LLC has decided to open its East Coast operations in Greater Richmond. The company will be producing gourmet cheesecakes and savory dips.

Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes founder, Lee Mathis, plans to start production this month at Kitchen Thyme, a commercial kitchen in western Henrico County.

The company’s trademark “Cheesecakes in a Jar®” has already generated a fan base in the area, which Mathis noted during his previous visits to Richmond. Mathis has been traveling to Greater Richmond for the last 20 years, and his family ties helped seal the deal.

The product’s East Coast fan base will be better served now that Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes has a facility in the Mid-Atlantic. “We have been in business in Western Colorado since 2006 and while hindsight is 20/20, we should have made the move to expand to the East Coast, a major market, years ago,” Mathis noted.

“When we were first researching where to start-up in the east, I contacted various groups and they all suggested that I contact the Greater Richmond Partnership, which I did. After meeting with them, I was very impressed with their energy, dedication and over-the-top enthusiasm about bringing new business to the Greater Richmond area.”

“We’re excited to help Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes in their entrepreneurial efforts,“ said Gregory H. Wingfield, president of the Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. “Our region has a strong cluster of food and beverage companies, and we see potential in their product as its market grows on the East Coast.”

The company will start operations with a small production team and as sales increase, invest in their own facility.

The Henrico County Economic Development Authority offered business resources to Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes in their real estate search and start-up. “Henrico County is always happy to have a new resident in its business community,” said Gary McLaren, director of the Henrico Economic Development Authority. “We look forward to assisting Decadence Gourmet Cheesecakes in their future growth plans.”
